Do you like flame retardants in children's products
2015-12-02 09:17:39
The good news is that there’s now a proposed new furniture regulation standard that, if passed, has the potential to drastically reduce the amount of flame retardants found in furniture as well as in children’s products like strollers, car seats, carriers, and high chairs. Even though it’s a Californian regulation, it sets the standard for products nationwide.

Best-case scenario, if everything goes well, the standard could be implemented in fall of this year. Even then, consumers won’t immediately have access to pure products—for two reasons.

Here are a few ways concerned parents can help the proposal, let manufacturers know we don’t want these chemicals in our kids’ toys or our living room couches. Even though the bureau has determined 20 different categories of juvenile products, including baby car seats, baby stroller, baby rocker and more don’t present a fire hazard and won’t have to meet the standards, it “doesn’t have the authority to say they can or can’t use flame retardant chemicals.” It’s up to parents to demand FR-free products.

Make a comment supporting the change during the public comment period.
This proposal is the beginning of fixing the problem. Next up is to ensure flame-retardant free products through legislation or other regulations. The first step was this old outdated standard had to go because there was no other way to meet it,the road will be clear if it passes.
